Episode 1300 [1973]

Original Air Date: April 13, 1973

Neighborhood Archive Notes: After some initial issues with the site search option on the main page of the new site, it looks like the problems have been fixed and it's working great. Rather than just have the site search on the main page, I decided to make it an easily accessible menu link on the left side of every page.

I didn't know where to share this recent "find" so am putting it here. The Punchy Players make these videos and they are so interesting to me but this one had a surprise guest that I thought you'd like to see.

Vickie -- Thanks for sharing the link. Eric sent that link to me a few days ago but with the craziness of keeping up with these classic episodes this month, I haven't had a chance to do anything with it (or even reply to Eric...sorry Eric). Either way, this video sure is a lot of fun!

This is one of my favorite operas. I love:

-How Horatio the Potato Bug is aware of how Mother cow is going to take Priscilla's becoming a potato bug. "I'll wait here" he says uncomfortably when she runs off to tell her mother.

-The music box tune that Mother Cow listens to and then sings throughout the show. A quiet pretty tune, it's the same tune Priscilla sings when she thanks everyone at the end. Very sweet.

-the way Lady E uses the phone. She uses so many contemporary 70's phrases, it's funny to remember that it's Fred saying those words cause I know he was old fashioned even then.

Love this opera. I got it on dvd and really brings back memories. Had forgotten that Reardon was once clean-shaven! Interesting to see Harriet Elizabeth Cow in an opera too! Very charming overall.
